What is a Wealth Manager?

The career of a wealth manager is possibly one of the most exciting careers in finance. Despite this, not many people are familiar with the specifics of what a wealth manager does. Simply put, a wealth and asset manager is responsible for managing the investment portfolios of high-net-worth individuals. This role is usually dual-focused and revolves around two core offerings: financial planning and portfolio management.

To provide these services, you will need to perform several tasks. These tasks can include investing your client’s wealth, managing those investments, advising on future investments, and evaluating your client’s spending habits to ensure maximum financial efficiency.

Effectively rendering these services will require our wealth managers to familiarise themselves with various regulations and investment products. These investment products can include, but are not limited to:

  • Lump Sum Investments;
  • Fixed-Income Products;
  • Global Funds, including Equity, VC, ESG;
  • Portfolio Bonds;
  • Regular Savings Plans;
  • International Pension Planning;

Who Are We Looking For?

As you may be aware, there is no regulatory body responsible for governing the wealth management profession. This lack of oversight means that there is no formal structure to securing a wealth manager position at the deVere group.

When considering applicants for a wealth management position, we look for applicants holding a degree in a related subject like finance, accounting, or economics. Further, we require that our wealth managers are either level 4 advisory qualified within the U.K or that they aspire to achieve this certification.

Alternatively, we train wealth managers as part of the trainee program we discussed above. If you are not an experienced wealth manager but are keen to dive into the profession, we recommend viewing our wealth manager recruitment page.

The professional life of a wealth manager can be highly rewarding. Working in such a diverse profession allows you to pursue pathways that interest you and provides the opportunity to develop a career that suits your personal and professional aspirations.
