Intrepid Travel, the world’s largest B-Corp-certified travel company, has responded to the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria with an emergency appeal. The company has committed $100,000 AUD through their not-for-profit, the Intrepid Foundation, to provide immediate relief and support to those affected by the disaster. Additionally, Intrepid has pledged to donate all profits from bookings made on their trips in Turkey until April 30, 2023, to support the appeal.

The Intrepid Foundation has partnered with the Australian Red Cross to ensure that funds are effectively utilized to provide immediate and long-term support to the affected communities. Intrepid will match donations to the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Appeal up to $100,000 AUD, while covering the foundation’s administrative costs, ensuring that 100% of the donations go directly to the Australian Red Cross.

Intrepid has a long-standing connection with Turkey, which became the company’s second destination in 1990. It remains one of the company’s most popular destinations, having welcomed over 25,000 travellers in the past decade. Today, Intrepid operates 30 tours in Turkey and has 25 local team members based in their Istanbul office. The company’s CEO, James Thornton, says, “Intrepid Travel was founded on the idea of using travel as a force for good and giving back to the places we visit.”

At the time of the earthquake, there was only one group of Intrepid travellers in Turkey, and they are all safe. Customer safety remains the company’s top priority, and while they are closely monitoring government travel advisories, no significant changes to future departures are being planned.

“This earthquake has devastated communities across southeastern Turkey and Syria,” says Biheng Zhang, General Manager of the Intrepid Foundation. “We can help those in need by providing basic emergency aid and items such as blankets and tents.
