Southern Cross Travel InsuranceSouthern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI), one of the leading insurance providers for Australian international travellers, has unveiled a revamped flagship insurance product that includes coverage for pet care and childcare expenses. The new International Comprehensive policy replaces SCTI’s TravelCare policy, covering travellers for almost 15 years.

Driven by fresh customer insights and a need to reflect increasingly diverse traveller needs, the new policy includes several changes that cater to the demands of today’s travellers. One of the most exciting changes is the addition of cover for additional pet care if your return travel is delayed. Pet owners can now claim $100 per day up to $1,000 per paying a person for extra care at a kennel or cattery.

Jo McCauley, CEO of Southern Cross Travel Insurance, said, “As a dog and cat owner myself, I really understand how travellers with pets can be worried about travel disruption affecting their arrival home. To help ease their concerns, we have introduced cover for additional pet care.”

The policy also includes coverage for additional childcare expenses for parents or caregivers delayed in their return home. Under the International Comprehensive policy, customers can claim $100 per 24 hours up to $1,000 for extra expenses.

In addition, the policy allows the sale of one policy online that includes coverage for up to 30 travellers. SCTI has also doubled the cover available under the rental vehicle excess benefit and increased the amount available for emergency dental treatment.

According to Southern Cross Travel Insurance, the changes reflect the types of travel, incidents, and resulting claims they have been seeing. With international travel re-emerging, the company wanted to introduce further changes to better support its customers.

Research from Southern Cross Travel Insurance reveals that nearly all (87%) Australians are planning to travel in the next 12 months, with the top reasons for doing so being to relax and unwind, see family and friends, and experience an adventure. However, three in four (74%) of all Australian overseas travellers over the last 12 months have experienced an issue such as flight delays or cancellations, catching Covid-19 during their trip, or sustaining an illness or injury immediately before or during their trip.

McCauley said, “While we’re really delighted with the changes we’ve made, this is just one of our policy makeovers, with upgrades on the way for other policies we offer. We’re determined to live up to our reputation as a trusted travel insurer, and this is only possible if we take our customers’ needs into account and respond to the way they want to travel.”
