Scott HamiltonThe international conference market in Wellington has picked up sharply, mainly from Australia and the US, according to Scott Hamilton, general manager of InterContinental Wellington.

Events tended to involve fewer people but be “a lot more special”, he added, as Wellington’s “only full five-star hotel”, InterContinental Wellington, was well situated to cater for the trend.

Speaking at MEETINGS 2023 in Wellington, Hamilton welcomed the imminent opening of the InterContinental Auckland, due to open at the end of this year. It will give New Zealand two InterContinental properties.

InterContinental Wellington’s waterfront location provides guests with easy access to Wellington’s cultural treasures and natural wonders.

The lobby blends contemporary design and classic elegance. The 236 guest rooms and suites offer a perfect combination of comfort, style and functionality, featuring plush furnishings and modern amenities with breathtaking harbour or iconic city skyline views.

InterContinental Wellington boasts a range of culinary options, from innovative casual meals at Two Grey Café, Bar & Eatery, to Mediterranean-influenced dining at GPO, featuring the best in season seafood and locally sourced produce, and the sophisticated ambience of The Lobby Lounge, perfect for enjoying afternoon tea or cocktails.

Guests can take advantage of the state-of-the-art fitness centre or relax by the sparkling indoor pool. The hotel also provides versatile event spaces, making it ideal for weddings, conferences, and special occasions.

Scott Hamilton, an honorary Les Clefs d’Or concierge member, joined InterContinental Wellington in 2012, fostering a successful multi-million dollar refurbishment and establishing a prestigious luxury hotel. He serves on Le Cordon Bleu’s Industry Advisory Board and as a guest speaker at WelTec Hospitality School.
