The Main Range from Mount PerisherIn a sensational turn of events, Perisher, known as the most expansive ski resort in the southern hemisphere, has revealed that its quartet of ski terrains – Mount Perisher, Blue Cow, Guthega, and Smiggin Holes – is officially primed and ready for an influx of eager snow seekers, beginning yesterday.

This unveiling, disclosed by Perisher’s zealous Marketing Manager Maddi Ventura, entails 20 active lifts prepped for operation, promising a mesmerising ride for skiers and snowboarders. The advent of cold fronts and predicted gusty winds is set to drape the mountains in fresh snow, enhancing the ski trails and slope conditions. Visit the official Perisher website to keep track of lift and run statuses across all mountains.

Blue Cow, one of the newly opened terrains, is particularly intriguing due to its easy accessibility via the Skitube, which showcases a vibrant new mural by renowned artist Mike Shankster this season. The mountain offers an extensive range of Green and Blue runs, with a selection of electrifying Black runs for the more adventurous skiers. However, enthusiasts should know that the runs’ accessibility is weather dependent.

On the other hand, Smiggin Holes is touted as an ideal spot for families and beginners during the school holidays, featuring a bowl layout that ensures everyone ends their run in the same spot. This terrain, with its Scottish namesake referring to cattle-made land holes, not only offers a history lesson but also houses various restaurants and accommodations. The area’s weather protection makes it a fantastic, safe spot for even the youngest family members.

Guthega is a hotspot for locals due to its attractive features like the Freedom Chairlift, snow-capped restaurants, and scenic views that are bound to leave you gasping for breath. It is known for its assortment of Green, Blue, Double Blue, and Black runs, catering to all skill levels.

Ventura also highlighted that all four resort areas are now open, though they are not fully interlinked. She praised Mother Nature’s benevolence and lauded the diligent efforts of the Mountain Operations team in enabling snowmaking day and night. She said, “Each day seems to be better than the next here.”
