Thredbo Resort officially opened for skiing and snowboarding today (Tuesday 20 June) following multiple nights of snowmaking and a storm that brought a layer of fresh snow all the way down to the village. What’s more, experts are forecasting over 40cm of snow by the end of the week.
  • Today, Thredbo Resort officially opened the mountain for skiing and snowboarding.
  • Thredbo received 15cm of fresh snow over the last twenty-four hours, taking the total count to 39cm.
  • There were 189 snowmaking guns firing across the mountain last night from 4pm to 9am, strengthening up the base for the first day of skiing and snowboarding.
  • Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed light and dry snow conditions for their first laps of the season, with the sun popping out to create a beautiful bluebird day.
  • The Gunbarrel Chairlift, Merritts Gondola and Cruiser Chairlift were all spinning today, providing skiing and snowboarding access to Walkabout and Ballroom in the Cruiser area.

It was an incredible first day on the slopes following 15cm of fresh snowfall over the last twenty-four hours and multiple strong nights of snowmaking. Last night, there were 189 snowmaking guns firing across the mountain from 4pm yesterday afternoon to 9am this morning.

Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed light and dry snow conditions for their first laps of the season today, with the sun coming out to create a beautiful bluebird day.

The Gunbarrel Chairlift, Merritts Gondola and Cruiser Chairlift were all spinning today, providing skiing and snowboarding access to Walkabout and Ballroom in the Cruiser area.

There snow quality is expected to remain high and there are more snowmaking nights ahead thanks to consistent subzero temperatures. What’s more, experts are forecasting another 40cm of snow by the end of the week.

During school holidays, Thredbo’s Kids Snow Festivals take over the resort, offering families a mountain of terrain to explore, a huge line up of free activities and plenty of après for mum and dad. The Kids Snow Festivals are a favourite with kids of all ages, offering a non-stop line-up of activities on and off the mountain including kids-only movie nights, special kids flare run and fireworks.
