England’s longest foot trail, the 1014km-long South West Coast Path through Cornwall, Devon and Dorset, is 50 years old this year. European, self-guided walking tour operator, On Foot Holidays, is offering Australians and Kiwis the chance to hike a part of the spectacular track to famous Land’s End next year but at 2023 prices for bookings made by October 31, 2023.

One of 35 self-guided walks On Foot Holidays offers across Europe, the six-night Cornwall coastal trek traces sections of the South West Coast Path that was established in 1973 to showcase the rugged sea cliffs, quaint fishing villages, azure waters, beautiful beaches and wild, wind-in-your-hair, coastal scenery in the south-west corner of England.

The ancient Greeks knew Cornwall romantically as Belerion, or ‘Shining Land’ and the South West Coast Path has been voted several times as Britain’s best walking route.

Designed for independent travellers, On Foot Holidays’ portfolio of immersive and eco-sustainable walking journeys across Europe sees walkers stay at authentic accommodation properties, with luggage transferred every day so hikers can follow the trail unencumbered by heavy rucksacks. Walkers select their departure dates from those available and all routes are designed by locals and tested by staff from On Foot Holidays.

Available between March and November, On Foot Holidays’ Cornwall hike is a circuit starting and ending in the pretty coastal town of St Ives. The route wends its way along the dramatic coast via lofty headlands, lonely lighthouses, smugglers’ coves, iron-age forts, ruined castles, the enchanting island hamlet of St Michael’s Mount, Land’s End – England’s most westerly point – and picture-postcard towns such as Mousehole, Porthcurno and Sennen Cove. Along the way, guests stay in cosy B&Bs and inns near the water and can enjoy traditional local fare such as Cornish pasties, cream teas, saffron cake and crab sandwiches.

Including six nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation, one dinner, daily luggage transfers, route directions and maps, the walk costs from £930 per person, twin-share (approximately A$1765 depending on exchange rates), based on current 2023 rates. Walkers can select available dates.

Australians and Kiwis who book the Cornwall hike for 2024 will pay current 2023 prices, saving around 10 per cent, if they book by October 31, 2023.
