Five reasons to visit the Swan Valley this winter Thursday, June 15, 2023

Winter has well and truly arrived but with warmer than average temperatures predicted, there’s no reason to stay at home, or inside.

The Swan Valley is just 25-minutes from the heart of Perth. If you need convincing, here are five reasons to jump in the car.

1. Families can sample the sweet stuff at a chocolate factory, meet cuddly animals, enjoy a nature walk at Bells Rapids, or take part in free scavenger hunt, The Great Valley Rally.

2. Grab a bite to eat with friends at a winery, brewery or distillery — with cosy fireplaces at spots including Sandalford Wines, Mandoon Estate, Oakover Grounds and The Henley Brook.

3. Luxury stays in the Swan Valley will have you relaxed in no time without the long drive. Check-in to The Swan Valley Retreat and you may never want to leave.

4. Senior and midweek deals help to stretch the budget with food, drink, tour, museum, spa and hotel offers.

5. Winter Wines in the Valley presented by the Swan Valley Winemakers Association, and supported by the City of Swan and Destination Perth, offers a great way to experience something delicious and new at your favourite wineries throughout July.

  • Feast on Bastille Day fare from Vincenzo Velletri of Il Paiolo Catering paired with Swan Valley French wine varieties when The Fox goes French at The Naked Fox Wine Lounge and Cafe on July 14.
  • Enjoy a five-course dinner and museum wine flight at Upper Reach Winery Restaurant on July 22.
  • Nikola Estate has a suite of winter activities in July and August including A Sticky Affair, where fortified wines and deluxe desserts by head chef Trent Dawson, will be paired in the newly opened Woodcutters Restaurant, on July 22.
  • Garbin Estate Wines will host WA’s oldest chocolatier, Whistler’s Chocolate Company, for a wine and chocolate pairing, marshmallow toasting, and burning of the vine canes to signify the end of vintage, on July 29.
  • The full program is available by following the Winter Wines in the Valley link above, and following @swanvalleywinemakers on Facebook and Instagram.

David Lucas, City of Swan Mayor, said winter was a great chance to see the Swan Valley in a different light.

“Nothing says winter in the Swan Valley like a red wine or hot chocolate by the fire with a hearty meal and it is great to see so many wineries offering new and different experiences to attract visitors,” he said.

“There’s no need to hibernate when we have nougat, nut and chocolate factories, plenty of breweries and distilleries, and of course, museums, galleries and nature activities to lure people out of the house, day or night.”
