The 37,000-acre park has more than 38 miles of trails, a river, two lakes and open land ripe for exploring. Local wildlife may be spotted include deer, tree frogs, softshell turtles and wild hogs.

A stop in Myakka City is a perfect addition to any animal lover’s itinerary. Visitors can rent bicycles, canoes or kayaks, take a boat tour or go off on their own to bird watch.

Myakka River State Park is a short drive off the interstate.
