Small-batch wine collective Artisans of Barossa has joined Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia (UWEA) as the 28th member of the prestigious wine tourism association.

The Artisans of Barossa are eight independent family-owned winemakers brought together by a shared commitment to protect and promote the art of small-batch Barossa winemaking. The ‘Artisan’ philosophy is centred around the human drive to explore, experiment and to express ourselves.

Located in the charming town of Tanunda, an hour’s drive from Adelaide, Artisans of Barossa offers a modern cellar door where guests can embark on a journey of discovery with more than 100 Barossa wines for tasting in one place.

Guests can take a deep dive into the Artisans’ Grenache Project; a guided tasting of six wines made by six different winemakers using grapes from the same Barossa Grenache vineyard. The first of its kind among the Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia, this unique masterclass explores the influence of a human mind and the art and skill of small batch winemaking on the character and flavour of one of Barossa’s classic grape varieties.

The culinary offering at Artisans of Barossa ranges from casual all-day eats at the Delikatessen to a contemporary, innovative interpretation of seasonal Barossa ingredients via a two or three course menu at Essen, which means ‘to eat’ – a nod to the Barossa region’s German heritage.

The Artisan philosophy is also highlighted by the onsite Providore, which is stocked with Artisan wine and take-home produce from small-scale local farmers and makers.

Kate Shilling, Executive Officer Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia, expressed her enthusiasm to have a new Barossa member on board. “Artisans of Barossa has a very different offering to our other Barossa members, which gives guests even more reason to explore the Ultimate Wineries trail through the Barossa region,” she said.

Fraser Mackenzie, Group General Manager of Artisans of Barossa, said joining UWEA marked an exciting milestone for Artisans of Barossa, and would allow them to showcase their wines, experiences, and warm hospitality to a wider audience. “We are thrilled to be associated with this prestigious alliance of world-class wineries and be part of an exclusive network committed to delivering exceptional wine tourism experiences,” he said.

Artisans of Barossa is the fourth winery in the Barossa region to join the UWEA collective, alongside Seppeltsfield, St Hugo and Jacob’s Creek. Yalumba in the region’s neighbouring Eden Valley is also a member, taking the total South Australian UWEA contingent to nine wineries.

Artisans of Barossa is open seven days, and is located at 24 Vine Vale Road, Tanunda.
