Magnolia RestaurantAmid Surabaya’s flourishing haute cuisine scene, Magnolia Restaurant at The Westin Surabaya curates a delightful extravaganza for food aficionados. This christened “Gastronome Fest” gala will be followed by a culinary coup featuring the world’s inaugural Michelin-starred Peranakan eatery, Candlenut. Scheduled for July 21st, this exclusive dining event will see Candlenut running the kitchen for a one-night spectacle.

Candlenut, a gem in Singapore’s dining scene, is known for its Peranakan-inspired cuisine – a captivating medley of Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian culinary influences. Chef Malcolm Lee, the proprietor, has harnessed his Straits-Chinese culinary lineage, infusing it with innovative tweaks. “Our objective surpasses just being local,” states Chef Malcolm. “Scratch the surface and you’ll uncover a profound gastronomic legacy extending across generations and transcending Singapore’s borders.”

Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, mirrors Singapore’s multicultural palate, especially in its impressive assortment of Chinese cuisine. This diversity spans from roadside eateries to elite restaurants, most bearing a touch of the Orient. Alamsyah Jo, Complex General Manager at The Westin Surabaya, observes, “Surabaya shares numerous culinary aspects with Singapore. Our fascination with Peranakan cuisine is profound. It’s not just historical and packed with flavors; some recipes demand patience and substantial prep time to achieve the ideal texture and spice infusion. It truly is a comprehensive gastronomic journey.”

This comprehensive gastronomic journey takes a deeper plunge at the ‘Gastronome Fest.’ Candlenut and Westin Culinary Team will amalgamate their culinary prowess to curate a lavish 5-course Peranakan menu, complemented by the opulent aromas of Fantini wines. The feast will start on a high note with Chef Malcolm Lee’s appetizer, Ngoh Hiang, followed by Pong Tauhu Soup. A Mango Sorbet will cleanse the palate before diving into the main course of Pork Jowl or Prawn Curry. Wrapping up the night on a sweet note will be Exotique Berries Entremet, the piece de resistance by the Westin Culinary Team.

“We extend an invitation to all gastronomy enthusiasts to this exclusive Michelin-star takeover. Marriott Bonvoy members will enjoy a limited offer to earn and redeem points, a chance to meet Chef Malcolm Lee, and avail a special discount for the dinner,” says Alamsyah Jo.

Please visit the Magnolia Restaurant’s website for further information and dinner reservations. Experience an unforgettable night of Michelin-starred dining, where Singapore’s Candlenut brings its unique culinary genius to the vibrant landscape of Surabaya.
