On the evening of June 6, Melco Resorts & Entertainment sponsored a dedicated session of Macau’s first World Cultural Heritage immersive theatre performance The Banquet of Zheng Family for the enjoyment of colleagues, which also formed part of the activities for the Company’s Splendors of China nationalistic learning program. Through the innovative and interactive experience, audiences were led to experience sentiments of the great men of the past. The Melco session invited Ms. Cheong Man Fai, Head of Youth Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau as event guest and was attended by more than 60 Melco colleagues and family members. The Banquet of Zheng Family is guided by the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, funded by the Macau Cultural Development Fund and supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office and Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Melco Chairman & CEO, said, “It is great to see a World Cultural Heritage immersive drama such as The Banquet of Zheng Family be produced in Macau. The drama deepens citizens’ understanding of the history of the country and Macau while promoting cultural tourism development. We look forward to further introducing innovative and interesting activities to our Splendors of China nationalistic learning program curriculum to enhance interest in national conditions and instill national pride among colleagues.”

Event attendee Ms. Bonnie Tam, Executive Director of Resorts Sales & Marketing, Altira Macau, said, “I’m grateful that the company arranged this special Melco session of The Banquet of Zheng Family. This was the first time I’ve taken part in this style of nationalistic learning activity. It has been interesting to learn about national conditions through a dramatic performance hosted at this World Heritage Site in Macau, since normally this type of information is shared through seminars or other forms of learning. This was an immersive drama which was innovative and with plenty of interactive elements. I will certainly be recommending The Zheng Family Banquet to family, friends and colleagues.”

Honoring the 180th anniversary of Zheng Guanying’s birth, The Banquet of Zheng Family is based on the rich history and culture of the notable residential complex Mandarin’s House in São Lourenço. It combines traditional theatre and dance, Chinese and Portuguese cultural elements, as well as innovative immersive interactive experiences and murder mystery gaming elements. Mandarin’s House was the residence and family home of the late Qing theoretician and reformist Zheng Guanying, who completed his masterpiece Shengshi Weiyan (“Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity”) in the house.
