industrialSingapore’s Lazarus Island is set to welcome its first-ever overnight accommodation with the creation of a tiny house village. Five tiny houses, designed and built by Tiny Away, will be part of the eco-friendly, low-carbon emission accommodation option ‘Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island.’ The village, set to open in May 2023, is an exciting development for those looking for a sustainable and nature-focused holiday destination.

Located a short 15-minute boat ride from Sentosa Island, the Southern Islands of Singapore, which include Seringat, St John’s, and Kias, are spread across 128 hectares. Despite being unknown to many locals and international visitors alike, the islands are a hidden paradise, offering a unique opportunity to escape from city life and immerse oneself in nature.ext 2

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) partnered with Tiny Away to secure and develop the project on Lazarus Island. The project includes a multi-purpose space called ‘The Glasshouse,’ where guests can enjoy amenities, cooking facilities, and the chance to meet other island-goers. Bicycle rentals and other non-motorized water activities will also be launched in phases by June.

Jeff Yeo, the co-founder of Tiny Away, expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island will be the first accommodation on the island in its history. It’s so exciting to introduce ecotourism experiences to this hidden-gem island destination.”

The tiny houses are sustainably built, allowing guests to rest and enjoy comfortable accommodations with modern amenities such as split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and a bathroom with a hand basin and shower (gas-heated for hot showers). Solar energy is the primary source of power, supported by the grid for contingency. High-tech food waste recycling systems, in partnership with Singapore startup Westcom Solutions, will reduce and recycle food waste from guests. The entire tiny home experience on Lazarus Island has been carefully designed to ensure visitors enjoy their stay while respecting the environment and leaving the island unscathed.

Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island is an excellent option for travellers who want to experience Singapore’s natural habitats and surrounding islands outside the hustle and bustle of the city. The tiny house experience is perfect for those who appreciate sustainable travel and ecotourism.

The project’s location is perfect for visitors to experience the stunning beauty of the Southern Islands and learn about the local environment. The tiny house village will offer a unique perspective on sustainable living and is expected to be available for bookings from May 2023.

In conclusion, Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island is a great addition to Singapore’s growing ecotourism industry. The project provides an eco-friendly, sustainable, and nature-focused accommodation option for travellers seeking an escape from the city. This project is a great example of how tourism can benefit both the environment and local communities.
